The Ovarian Cancer
Orange County Alliance (OCOCA) Speakers Bureau offers
multi-faceted presentations:
Our Community Outreach Program is
designed to educate women in our region on the common symptoms
and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer. We emphasize the importance
of early detection and the steps to take in getting proper
diagnosis and treatment.
We travel to all interested venues:
These one hour presentations,
adaptable to the needs and interests of each particular
audience, generally consist of:
A brief testimonial by a trained
member of the Speakers Bureau describing her personal
experience with ovarian cancer.
A detailed and informative formal
PowerPoint presentation, created in association with the Ovarian
Cancer National Alliance and the Society for Gynecologic
Oncologists which covers:
-
the basic facts about ovarian
cancer
-
risk factors and common
symptoms
-
the steps to take if ovarian
cancer symptoms persist
-
the importance of treatment by
appropriate medical specialists
-
resources for further
information.
Distribution of packets containing written materials relevant to
the audience
Time for audience questions and comments.
Our Medical School Project:
Survivors Teaching Medical Students is designed to educate 3rd
year medical students to become more sensitive to the symptoms
and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer. This one hour presentation
generally consists of:
-
Information about OCOCA and
services we provide.
-
Personal stories, as vehicles
for education, are shared by ovarian cancer survivors and
others whose lives have been touched by ovarian cancer.

Dialogue between the presenters
and students.
The effectiveness of this model is
seen in the 99+% positive feedback received from the students
who have participated. We are currently presenting at University
